A Coleção MRS percorre sete décadas de Arte Moderna Brasileira, dos anos 1920 aos 1980. Reúne pinturas, esculturas e desenhos de Candido Portinari, Tarsila do Amaral, Ismael Nery, José Pancetti, Hermelindo Fiaminghi, Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, Mira Schendel, Tomie Ohtake e Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, entre outros, articulados em torno do núcleo dedicado a Alfredo Volpi.The MRS Collection spans seven decades of Brazilian Modern Art, from the 1920s to the 1980s. It brings together paintings, sculptures, and drawings by Candido Portinari, Tarsila do Amaral, Ismael Nery, José Pancetti, Hermelindo Fiaminghi, Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, Mira Schendel, Tomie Ohtake, and Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, among others, gathered around a core dedicated to Alfredo Volpi.
Obras do acervo integraram mostras de referência ao longo das décadas. As Moças de Arcozelo, de Portinari, esteve na individual do artista no Museum of Modern Art de New York em 1940; trabalhos de Lygia Clark e Mira Schendel participaram das retrospectivas que o MoMA e a Tate Modern dedicaram às artistas em 2014.Works from the collection have been part of landmark exhibitions over the decades. Portinari's As Moças de Arcozelo featured in the artist's solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1940; works by Lygia Clark and Mira Schendel were included in the retrospectives that MoMA and Tate Modern dedicated to each artist in 2014.

Muitas obras da coleção carregam histórias que antecedem sua chegada ao acervo. As Moças de Arcozelo, de Portinari, foi exposta na individual do artista no Museum of Modern Art de New York já em 1940 — décadas antes de integrar a coleção. Hoje, a coleção dá continuidade a essa circulação e empresta regularmente suas obras a museus, fundações e bienais no Brasil e no exterior. O destaque internacional mais recente foi a exposição Alfredo Volpi: Lucca–São Paulo (1896–1988), no Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, em Prato, em 2024, com 28 obras emprestadas. Em 2018, dez Volpis viajaram ao Nouveau Musée National de Monaco; em 2025, duas obras de Lygia Clark integram a retrospectiva da artista na Neue Nationalgalerie de Berlin e no Kunsthaus Zürich; e em 2026, As Moças de Arcozelo viaja ao Museu Nacional da China, em Beijing.Many works in the collection carry histories that predate their arrival. Portinari's As Moças de Arcozelo, for instance, was shown in the artist's solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York as early as 1940 — decades before it became part of the collection. Today the collection continues that circulation, regularly lending its works to museums, foundations, and biennials in Brazil and abroad. The most recent international highlight was the exhibition Alfredo Volpi: Lucca–São Paulo (1896–1988) at Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato in 2024, with 28 works on loan. In 2018, ten Volpis traveled to the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco; in 2025, two works by Lygia Clark are part of the artist's retrospective at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Kunsthaus Zürich; and in 2026, As Moças de Arcozelo travels to the National Museum of China in Beijing.
